Oconomowoc lays claim to the distinction of being the location of the World Premier of the Wizard of Oz here at the old Strand Theater back in 1939. What is recognized as the most popular movie of all time got its start here in Oconomowoc before it showed anywhere else! We are celebrating that distinction with a grand event.
Moonlit Movies is taking its crowd and hype from the Fowler Park location to downtown Oconomowoc. We are shutting down Downtown Oconomowoc from the Round-a-Bout to Four Corners.

- We are setting up a 40' movie screen in front of City Hall.
- We will have a concert stage at Chase Bank, with local acts as well as the Michael Begler Band (who is releasing a children's album this year!)
- We will have over 25 costumed characters from the Wizard of Oz interacting with people all over the streets. Most of them are professional actors!
- A granite pedestal and plaque are being dedicated by our special guest.
- The village Green will be converted to a Yellow Brick Road interactive adventure for kids.
- Museum quality items will be on display in several shop windows.
- A Giant Oz Tent will be at the West end of the street where kids can go in and interact with The Great Oz!
- Local businesses will be selling their goods and foods, and having specials all along the street.
- Many give-aways for the kids as well as craft areas and activity stations!
- All this and more.....much much more!
- After sunset we will introduce a special guest flown in for the event, and then we will show The Wizard of Oz!
